1.
What about platelet, plasma and whole
blood donations?
By all means, while you are waiting to be contacted about donating
marrow, look into donating blood products. This may be in the form of
whole blood, double red blood cells, platelets and plasma. You can
help save the lives of those who are recovering from bone marrow
transplants, or have undergone chemo and radiation therapies, as well as
other disorders which require frequent transfusions.
ust because you aren't donating your marrow yet,
doesn't mean you can't save lives by donating blood products!

What about cord blood donations?
If you are having a baby soon, or know someone who is, please
consider donating the umbilical cord and placenta, or talking your
friend into donating hers to a cord blood through the National Marrow
Donor Program. The umbilical cord and placenta contain
hematopoietic stem cells which can be used to help others to live.

How can I get more information about dinners and parties thrown
specifically for living donors?
Try Googling for Donor Recognition Dinners in your area. The Red
Cross organizes one annually as do a few other well-known
organizations. You may want to even consider hosting your own.
